The electric drive system of the Cadillac Voltec Converj consists of a T-shaped battery with 16 kWh, an electric drive unit and a four-cylinder engine generator together. If the battery is empty, the Converj switches seamlessly into the extended-range mode. During this second operating phase, the electricity needed to propel the vehicle is internally provided by a flex-fuel engine, similar to a household generator produces electricity. The engine generator ensures uninterrupted power supply for hundreds of miles until the car refueled or connected to recharge the battery to the power grid.
